Hi beauties! Today I want to take some time to talk about my first ever experience at GenBeauty in NYC! For those of you who don’t know Generation Beauty by ipsy, popularly known as GenBeauty is beauty expo were tons of brands, beauty gurus and makeup artists get together to provide details of their products, give small classes or do meet and greets. Ipsy hosts this every year for two days in San Francisco, CA and New York, NY. Tickets can be a little pricey but codes are insanely easy to obtain which slashes the price down by a lot. Also, the goodie bag you get is amazing to say the least. Honestly, the amount of products you walk away with pays for the ticket and then some. Keep reading to find out my experience as well as some tips you can use for next year 🙂
The event takes place at the Jacob Javits Center, which is huge. The lines to get in move super quickly, and for the most part; considering the amount of people there; it was organized. Once you’re inside, it’s good to have a game plan of which vender set ups you want to attend and which meet and greets you want to be a part of. There will be lines ranging from 15 minutes to 45 minutes long, so wear comfy shoes. This event is definitely a marathon not a sprint. At the event they do sell food, but keep in mind that it will be overpriced, so I did see some people who brought their own little sandwiches, snacks and water. For the meet and greet events, I recommend showing up earlier than the start time to get a good spot on the line. At the very least I would say 15 minutes before they open it up. This year some of the beauty gurus that attended were Kandee Johnson, Nikki Tutorials, Nicole Guerriero and Exterior Glam (among others), and Kim Kardashian West’s makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic gave a small little session and had a meet and greet (which was a dream come true for me).
Almost all of the brands give a little something out when you visit them, some only have sales (very good ones), others are there to provide information and some did all of the above. Overall it’s a win win for all beauty lovers. I also loved that they also had skin care and hair care brands as well.
The goodie bag is absolutely incredible. I mean a lot of the brands definitely outdid themselves with what they provided to the goodie bag. Tarte, for example, gave their Make Believe in Yourself eye and cheek palette, and at their station a fan brush. Lancome provided a FULL SIZE mascara, and there were so many more amazing goodies!
- Bring water– unless you don’t mind spending $4 on a small Dasani water.
- Bring snacks– again, unless you’re ok with spending $12 or more dollars on a small meal.
- Wear comfortable shoes– hey, if you don’t mind standing in heels for about 7 hours, suit yourself. I don’t hate my feet enough to put them through that.
- Don’t feel pressured to show up full glam. Yes, you will see some stunning makeup, but it’s not just about that. Make sure you arrive feeling comfortable in your skin, because that’s the biggest thing 🙂
- Lastly, have fun and enjoy the music, the people and the freebies!
Overall, I had a wonderful experience at GenBeauty. If all goes well I believe I will definitely return next year and much more prepared! Thank you ipsy, and GenBeauty for hosting such an amazing event. My dream of meeting Mario was made a reality and I just don’t know if I’ll ever not be star struck lol. Huge shout outs to all to all the brands and beauty gurus that participated.
I hope you find this useful belles, until next post!♥♥♥
