Hi beauties! Today I want to write about how I apply foundation. Typically when I’m applying foundation my goal is to make sure my skin looks flawless, but not cakey. My favorite compliment to hear is that I have great skin (because I don’t!). Keep on reading to learn about my routine!
Step 1- prime/moisturize the skin. I have tons of primers, and moisturizers so I tend to switch it up… a lot. For dry skin, I definitely recommend using a moisturizer to prime. Something like the Belif True Cream Moisturizing Bomb would work. As for primer, I’m currently loving the Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Primer. Once you’ve applied the primer, let it set for a few minutes. I like to let the primer sink in for a bit and become a little tacky before going in with the foundation. I find that this helps with the overall finish and wear of it.
Step 2- dot on your foundation. I switch up my foundation a lot. Lately I’ve been beyond obsessed with the Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Stick foundation. I draw on a few lines of this on my face before blending. It is full coverage so you don’t need too much product. For liquid, I use the Maybelline Fit Me foundation; since I have dry skin, I use their dewy formula.
Step 3- blend! When I use my Hourglass foundation I blend with a brush. Currently I’m using the Real Techniques Expert Face brush. This brush is super soft and only $9 at the drug store! For liquid foundation I use a damp beauty sponge; either a Beauty Blender, a Real Techniques Sponge or a Sephora brand sponge. They key is to make sure you really dampen the sponge well. I leave it under the faucet for a bit and squeeze the excess water a few times, then I use a clean towel and lightly squeeze it in the towel. I also make sure to really blend the foundation. This is the part that is the most exhausting! The more you blend the more seamless your foundation will look.
After I am done blending the foundation and applying concealer I’ll set my face with a banana powder or a translucent setting powder. I love using the RCMA setting powder or the yellow beige color in Kat Von D’s Shade + Light palette.
Once my full face is complete, I make sure to set it with a setting spray. This is very important because it’ll make sure your makeup lasts and it allows all the product you’ve applied to sort of sink in and become one with your skin. My ultimate favorite setting spray right now is the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist. Oh my goodness do I love this thing! It gives me such a dewy finish which I love! For my oily skinned beauties I wouldn’t recommend this too much. What I would recommend, and I am also obsessed with, is the Milani Make It Last setting spray. I love how this smells, how it sprays and how it works.
That’s really it! I know it seems like a lot but it’s really easy and it’s quick. Hopefully these tips help with your foundation application! Until next time beauties! ❤
